In mid-April, the NSLI-Y Taiwan students traveled to the mountainous central Taiwan region. The only county without an ocean border, Nantou offers a very different lifestyle from that found in Kaohsiung or Taipei. Our first stop was Tao Mi village, a rural town that was the site of a 7.6 earthquake in 1999. While there, we visited the Paper Dome (a structure made entirely of paper) and took a firefly tour at night. The highlight of our trip was exploring Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan’s largest body of water and a key tourist site.
