Anyone who has been abroad for an extended period of time knows being outside the United States for the holidays can be a challenge. What we often miss most in addition to family and friends is food! However, this year, with the help of the American Institute in Taiwan, the NSLI-Y students were still able to eat their favorite Thanksgiving foods. Thanks to the hospitality of Mr. Gary Oba, Branch Chief of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Kaohsiung Branch Office, the students were able to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with their Taiwanese families. On November 26th, Mr. Oba invited the students and their host families to his home for a Thanksgiving feast, complete with creamed corn, sweet potato casserole, turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie! Surrounded by good company and good food, the students still had a great Thanksgiving, despite being far from home.
