Our ten NSLI-Y students have had a busy two weeks with their Wenzao classes and various activities; the visit to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) on September 26 in particular was a huge success!  The students took a scenic bus ride to AIT’s new offices in the China Steel Building; the impressive black-glass building is located in the rapidly developing harbor area of Qianzhen District.

After passing through security, the NSLI-Y students were ushered into a conference room where they met Robert DeWitt, the AIT Kaohsiung Branch Chief.  Mr. DeWitt gave a presentation explaining the history, purpose, and duties of AIT.  He also told the students about his experiences living in Taiwan as a missionary and his career in the U.S. Foreign Service, which were fascinating and highly inspirational to our NSLI-Y students.

“It’s such a cool career,” said Freya.  “It’s exactly what I want to do!” added Haleigh.

After the presentations, the students excitedly gathered around Mr. DeWitt and Jason Chue, Deputy Branch Chief, asking questions about the Foreign Service and learning Chinese.  After leaving the beautiful AIT office, the NSLI-Y students are even more driven than ever to work hard at their language learning and pursue their dreams!
